# 1 you can get dishonorable disharge w/ out a courtmarchal
and if it came down to it you would get a general discharge under honorable, trust me I have seen it happen. meaning you keep all you benifits and loose nothing. as long as you get a general discharge that all employers care about.
# 2 you as a woman cannot wear you hair in a pony tail( or pig tails)
# 3 if you have long hair is must be pulled a way and up in a bun
I never went through any of this when I was in the Navy and when I can in 2002 Dreadlocks or locks were not exceptible then. all of us girls wore our hair braided strait back, no design if there was our hair had to come down and start over and that was at boot camp. The only time I had a problem was I was tired of brading my hair and keeping it so I cut it all off and it was less than one inch. My chef did not see a problem with because I did not shave my head. And before I signed my contract i lloked into what I could and could not do with my body that included my hair. If you complain about your hair you should have never joined because the no dreadlocks. no twist or locking of the hair has been in efect for 20 + years. You signed a contract get over and fall in line.

When I removed Un-natural food, cleaning products, water and personal care products from my lifestyle and began to detox lifelong toxin build-up from my body I lost a huge amount of weight (and still dropping), no longer have asthma, eczema and other minor conditions that once bothered me. Sometimes people forget that small amounts of toxins NOW lead to a bigger picture of ill health in the FUTURE and I'm not just referring to a tummy ache, the bottom line is our bodies can not deal with "foreign" substances that were made in a lab and not by God. I want to live a healthy life not just now but in 100 years from now as well.

These have been found to be good for the hair but I am also concerned with what is washed down the sink and into the environment (think petroleum products), I wonder if theses are eco-friendly as well. Thanks for the information.

Thank you for your info. I have been disregarding products that I could have been using for over 6 months. I have thrown away products that I thought were harmful to my hair. Now I know, knowledge is Power! I shall spread the word. God Bless.

I would highly suggest that this woman also contact her Air Force JAG office and potentially the IG. Any time you're dealing with the proper interpretation of a military regulation, it's a legal issue/matter that the JAG should be involved in. She needs a proper defense attorney, especially if the overall issue is whether she will be dishonorably discharged b/c of her hairstyle, which is something that would negatively affect her for the rest of her life.

I just have to say that I am more than thrilled and saddened at the same time about Kim's situation. I am thrilled because I am also a member of the AirForce, who came in with locs but was forced to CUT them off while I was in basic training due to the new AirForceInstruction. Now I wear my hair low cut, all even with waves. I refuse to put chemicals into my hair ever again and i won't grow it back out unless I can loc it. Now one year later my supervisor prints out the Regulation and "cousels" me on the section that states "females may not have shaved heads" the minimum requirment is AT LEAST one inch and the max in bulk is 3 inches, in other words, now that they've made me cut it all off they've backed me into a corner with a MINIMUM and a MAXIMUM length requirment if my hair is to be worn NATURALLY! Check out the reg, it's posted on this site. This is ridiculous. Other people of other races are allowed to wear their hair the way it naturally grows as long as it is in a neat and professional manner....WHY CAN'T WE? Is this or is this not discrimination?? Is it because I'm black? Do they feel threatened by the way we NAURALLY are?? Oh..it's ok to wear a perm right? because its closer to the way other races usually wear their hair right? Well what if White ppl and all others' hair grew out in coils? And our hair grew out straight and flat?? Then what would it be like? Would it be okay then? OH NO, or would we be then forced to come up with another chemical that coils the hair, so that our natural hair state (straight and flat hypothetically speaking) would not be considered "FADDISH". And What the heck is faddish defined as anyway?? Webster says that it is "A custom style that many ppl are interested in, for a short period of time" But hey maybe our hair has only been growing this way for a short period of time...SMH.These questions may sound ignorant to some but come on! I'd like to get to the bottom of it. I've tried taking this up the chain of command but they're all brainwashed with "AirForce Instruction" and the ones that maybe still have a mind of their own are too freakin' afraid to help me or point me in the right direction. It just makes me so angry. I just made 23 a week ago...I'm black..on my own in a foregin country..and I'm only an A1C (two stripes). Noone will listen. This all started happening a few days ago...and got online to do a little research to back myself up as I dive in for a career threatening battle against something that I feel very strongly about, I came across this website with Kim's story. If there are any supporters, PLEASE do all that you can to help...I am sure there are many more who felt they had to comply (as if they were wrong) or simply didnt want the battle. If anyone has any advice for me.. PLEASE I am all ears.
Peace

Thank you for the information, when you know better you do better. I started my locking process two months ago and have been running around trying to make sure my products had NO alcohol. Now that I know the difference, it has really made me research and investigate all ingredients in products and get the real deal on the affects on black hair.

Thanks for starting the process.
